The Week In Awesome! Funny People & More
Here are five things that excited me over the past week:
1. The Princess and the Frog - It doesn't go wide until the 11th, but Disney's latest hand-drawn animated film is already getting great reviews. I think a Disney film that takes place in the South with Voodoo, and a bit of a twist on a classic story, sounds like a lot of fun and I'm really looking forward to seeing the film!
2. Fantagraphics Spring Catalogue - Fantagraphics Books released their Spring publishing schedule including more Jacques Tardi, Megan Kelso, and Nancy! See the full list here.
3. "Oh, Blue Christmas" by A Fine Frenzy - It's the time of year to start breaking out the holiday music, and as I was looking for some new tunes this year anyway, and I love A Fine Frenzy, the two came together in a wonderful package entitled "Oh, Blue Christmas," available on I-Tunes. Take a listen to "Wish You Well."
4. Funny People on DVD - Judd Apatow's latest may not live up to the awesomeness of his previous two comedy masterpieces, but it's a worthy addition to his legacy.
5. The Brooklyn Comics & Graphics Festival - Picturebox and Desert Island are presenting this festival in Brooklyn with some pretty interesting-sounding panels, music performances, and a great line-up of guests including Charles Burns, Kim Deitch, Dash Shaw, Adrian Tomine, Gary Panter and many others. It takes place on Saturday, December 5th at Our Lady of Consolation Church. Admission is free. Details here.
