Previews: February '11

Wading through the phonebook that is Previews Catalogue so you don't have to...here are twenty choice books that you may have missed, or that I think are just noteworthy.

Archie Archives (Volume 1) HC - That's right, collecting it all from the beginning.

Cinderella: Fables Are Forever #1 (of 6) - I think everyone was surprised when the collection of Cinderella: From Fabletown with Love debuted as the number one graphic novel the month it came out, but this Fable/spy has always been a fan-favorite and is not to be underestimated in her new mini.

Bone: Quest For the Spark (Volume 1) Novel - Not comics, but based on a comic, this prose novel is the first in a series written by Tom Sniegoski, with some art by Bone-creator Jeff Smith.

Popeye: The Great Comic Book Tales of Bud Sagendorf HC - Popeye stories from Sagendorf published in the 40's and 50's - part of Craig Yoe's excellent Yoe Books! imprint of IDW.

The Arctic Marauder HC - More Jacques Tardi goodness!  Featuring some craziness that takes place between the Arctic Ocean and the North Pole.

Batwoman #1 - The new series featuring Kate Kane returns with eye-popping J.H. Williams III art, for the first in a five-part story.  If #0 is any indication, this series is going to be one hell of a ride.

Stumptown (Volume 1) HC - And from the writer of the Detective Comics run featuring Batwoman that really put her on the map (Greg Rucka) is this story of a down-on-her-luck detective in Portland.  A very good series, collected for those who missed it.

Onslaught #1 (of 4) - One of the Marvel Universe's most powerful villains return in this crossover between The Young Allies and Secret Avengers.  Also available this month, a crossover between Young Allies and Avengers Academy in Arcade: Death Game #1 & #2.

Wandering Son (Book 1) - More manga from Fantagraphics, about a boy and a girl who wish to be the other's gender.

Fish Police (Volume 1) TP - This hasn't seen print in over twenty years, but is a beloved comic featuring, well, fish police, in their quest against the evil S.Q.U.I.D.

The Cardboard Valise GN - This new graphic novel by Ben Katchor is a whimsical graphic novel -travelogue from Pantheon.

Silver Surfer #1 - A new mini-series boasting a new beginning for the bald galactic being, written by none other than Greg Pak.

Owly & Wormy: Friends All Aflutter! HC - Owly makes the leap from graphic novel to children's picture book in this new story featuring Owly and the gang.

The White Viper TP - The first creator-owned collaboration between Dick Giordano and Frank McLaughlin is this butt-kicking girl.

Captain America Omnibus (Volume 1) HC - With the movie fast-approaching, this comic featuring creators like Jack Kirby, Stan Lee, Roy Thomas and Gil Kane is a must for those who've never read the legendary stories.

The John Stanley Library: Melvin Monster (Volume 3) HC - The ultra-cute monster's adventures are continued in John Stanley's excellent comics.

The Hunger of Seven Squat Bears HC - A bunch of fairytale stand-bys come together in this story of seven bears, a smooth-talking cat and a magic bean.

Cinderella's book is practically a crossover with Xmen/Alpha anyway since the big bad wolf is basically another large wolverine.
