Previews HYPE!: March '12

Here are the books that caught my eye in Previews Catalogue, for books shipping to comic shops in March...

Uncanny X-Force #23 - Holy crap I have to start reading this comic!  I love Meggan and Captain Britain, and there's Widget on the cover, and Captain Britain Corps stuff - all you Excalibur fans out there, prepare to geek out with me!

Savage Dragon Ultimate Collection (Volume 1) HC - Erik Larsen's comic has really had no good reprint program associated with the title, so it's nice to see that people will finally be able to turn to a series of hardcovers to rediscover this gem.

Batman: Death by Design HC - An original graphic novel featuring the Dark Knight, written by none other than Chip Kidd!

Avengers Assemble #1 - A new ongoing series from Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley (the original team behind Ultimate Spider-Man) featuring the Avengers roster from the movie, but in Marvel Universe continuity.

Fallen Words GN - A new manga from Yoshihiro Tatsumi is always cause for celebration.  Older Drawn & Quarterly collections from Tatsumi, like The Push Man and Other Stories are also becoming available in paperback this month!

Will Eisner's The Spirit: Artist's Edition HC - This is going to look amazing!!

Fairest #1 - Instead of mini-series spin-offs like we've seen from fan-favorite character Cinderella, Fables co-creator Bill Willingham is launching a new ongoing series that will have a rotating cast of female characters from the Fables universe, the first arc continuing events from a Fables story in which Briar Rose is taken from the castle where she lay dormant after dealing the Empire a blow.

Elektra by Greg Rucka Ultimate Collection TP - I'm a huge fan of this run on Elektra.  Fans who like Rucka's stuff now that may have missed this should check it out.

Manara Erotica (Volume 1): Click! and Other Stories HC - This is part of Dark Horses's Milo Manara Library project, featuring his more tantalizing art.

Interiorae SC - Originally published in a series of oversized comics as part of Fantagraphic's Ignatz line, this is Gabriella Giandelli's story collected.

Sammy the Mouse (Volume 1) TP - Also being collected from Fantagraphic's Ignatz line is Zak Sally's comic.

Saga #1 - Brian K. Vaughan returns with a new ongoing fantasy series from Image Comics!

Age of Apocalypse #1 - Spinning out of Uncanny X-Force, this is a new ongoing series featuring the popular alternate universe.

Nonnonba GN - The "definitive" work of Shigeru Mizuki, the manga creator behind last year's release Onward Towards Our Noble Deaths.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Eight (Volume 1) HC - A nice hardcover collection of this series was definitely missing until now.

Night Force #1 - More dark supernatural stories for DC, from Marv Wolfman, who created the original Night Force.

Ultimate Spider-Man Omnibus (Volume 1) HC - An omnibus collecting forty issues of Bendis and Bagley's run on the very good superhero book Ultimate Spider-Man

Wonder Woman (Volume 1): Blood HC - And we're beginning to see collections of DC's New 52 now!  Of the first wave of books, this is the one I recommend most: Azzarello, Chiang and Akins' sharp new vision for the Amazon.

Ragemoor #1 - This horror comic looks neat, about a living castle.

Dominique Laveau: Voodoo Child #1 - Another horror comic!  I love these girl witch comics, when done right.  This one takes place in New Orleans, with voodoo queens, vamps and loup-garous.

Avengers vs. X-Men #0 - I'm not really sure why this is such a big deal, but it could be fun.

The Manhatten Projects #1 - Jonathan Hickman launches another new ongoing series, from Image Comics.

The Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath & Other Stories HC - Adapting some lesser-known HP Lovecraft fantasy material, this comic is from manga expert Jason Thompson.

The Art of Daniel Clowes: Modern Cartoonist HC - Kind of explains itself, but should look amazing.

Peyo: The Life and Work of a Marvelous Storyteller SC - Another great art book this month is this biographical import from France.

Kitchen Sink Press: The First 25 Years SC - A neat retrospective by Dave Schreiner.

Sunday Funnies Collected (Volume 1) SC - Featuring 96 full-color Sunday pages presented in their original dimensions, this book brings to life classic strips such as Gasoline Alley, Tarzan, Kin-Der-Kids, Terry and the Pirates, and more!

Next Men: Aftermath #41 - John Byrne isn't done yet!

Blue HC - This debut graphic novel from Australian creator Pat Grant looks beautiful.

Astonishing X-Men #48 - A new creative team comes on board beginning with this issue: Marjorie Liu and Mike Perkins.  And of course there's a roster shake-down as well that sees characters like Northstar and Gambit joining the team.

Atomic Robo: Real Science Adventures #1 - A new ongoing series featuring Atomic Robo!
