Previews HYPE: January '11

Here are the books I noted after trudging through Previews Catalogue, for books shipping to comic shops in January...


Steve Canyon (Volume 1): 1947-1948 HC - Finally, nice editions of Milton Caniff's adventure strip, his follow-up to Terry and the Pirates, featuring all of the color Sundays and dailies in deserving hardcover volumes.

Whispers #1 - A new series, the first solo effort from Joshua Luna, featuring different art than we're used to seeing attached to his name. 

X-Men: Mutant Genesis 2.0 HC - The first seven issues of the relaunched X-Men from 1991 is collected in this hardcover, featuring the writing of Chris Claremont, Jim Lee, John Byrne and Scott Lobdell, and the pencils of Jim Lee.

Fantastic Life GN - Kevin Mutch's Xeric award-winning graphic novel.

Danger Girl: Revolver #1 (of 4) - A new Danger Girl is introduced to the team in this brand-new mini-series from creators J. Scott Campbell and Andy Hartnell, with Chris Madden.  Also available this month is the Danger Girl: The Danger-Sized Treasury Edition.

Gone To Amerikay HC - A new sweepeing epic story featuring Irish immigrants, this is a Vertigo OGN from Derek McCulloch and the talented Colleen Doran.

Fatale #1 - Monster mobsters and deadly dames in a new series from the Criminal, Sleeper team of Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips.

The Sunday Funnies #1 - This seems like a fun idea.  An anthology series that republishes classic Sunday comic strips, 32 pages of full color strips in their original size, in each issue.  Including titles like Gasoline Alley, Polly and Her Pals, Terry and the Pirates, Little Nemo and more.

The Sincerest Form of Parody: The Best 1950's MAD Inspired Satirical Comics SC - The title kind of says it all.  This collects stories from artists such as Jack Kirby, Bill Everett and Bob Powell.

Hawk and Dove: Ghosts and Demons TP - A new collection of the 1988 Hawk and Dove mini, sure to be of interest to fans of the new Hawk and Dove series.

I, Vampire TP - Also sure to have some followers in light of the new series from DC's New 52, this is the original fan-favorite material.

Infestation 2 #1 (of 2) - Because one wasn't enough, here comes another Infestation from IDW, bringing together different IDW properties for one crossover event, including Transformers, Danger Girl and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Steed and Mrs. Peel #1 - Grant Morrison writes this new series featuring the Avengers TV show's John Steed and Emma Peel.

Monster Mess HC - From Lewis Trondheim, this all-ages book is about some kids who draw monsters that come to life.

Wally Wood: Strange Worlds of Science Fiction Deluxe HC - Collecting rare science fiction comics from 1950 by Wally Wood.

Bulletproof Coffin: Disintegrated #1 (of 6) - A new Bulletproof Coffin mini-series!

Scarlet Spider #1 - A new Spider-Man title spinning out of Spider-Island, featuring a new Scarlet Spider.

The Avalon Chronicles (Volume 1) HC - A fantasy about a girl transported to Avalon, recalling the stories she was read from her parents' magical book The Avalon Chronicles.
